Mandevilla – Apocynacea (Sun Parasol Mandevilla)

CONTENT 011.jpg

Mandevilla are sometimes called or confused with dipladenias. There are over a 100 varieties of mandevillas which range from mostly tropical to subtropical “vine-ing” plants.

Mandevilla have spectacular flowers which range in color from white to pink to various reds.

Bigbadflower.com specializes in the providing the Sun Parasol line of Mandevilla. Sun Parasol Mandevillas were developed by Suntory. To learn more about this historic Japanese organization, go to www.suntory.com

Sun Parasol Mandevilla can be divided into three groups:

Original Group:
Sun Parasol Original has a neat, upright, compact growth habit with good basal branching and glossy green foliage. Originals will produce a beautiful flower that is 2 – 3 inches in diameter (flowers are available in Crimson, Pink, Cream Pink and Dark Red.) They are natural climbers and have excellent garden performance. The original group is ideal for container gardeners growing on/in patios, balconies, hanging baskets, landscapes or as a houseplant. In order to ensure success make sure this plant gets lots of light in the winter and summer. Keep plants in well drained soil (DO NOT OVER WATER.)

Giant Group:
Sun Parasol Giant has a vigorous growing habit, with course foliage and is a natural climber. Giants produce a gorgeous flower that is 3 – 5 inches in diameter (flowers are available in White, Pink and Crimson.) Giants are an excellent addition to a garden or a container garden providing a beautiful tropical feeling. The Giants are very versatile and can be used on/in patios, balconies and interior-scapes (with sufficient light.) In order to ensure success (and many blooms) plant in well draining soil and provide lots of light (DO NOT OVER WATER.)

Pretty Group:
Sun Parasol Pretty has small, glossy, thin foliage with a vigorous growing habit. Pretties want to produce flowers and flowers are 2 – 3 inches in diameter (flowers are available in Crimson and Pink.) Because of it vigorous climbing nature Pretties are an excellent candidate for trellises, hanging baskets and containers with all sorts of climbing supports. Different from the other two groups, Pretties want lots of light in the winter and prefer partial shade in the summer months. (For optimum bloom production provide partial shade during the summer months.) Like all the Sun Parasol Mandevilla plant in well drained soil and DO NOT OVER WATER.
